Last year, FareShare Greater Manchester served 306 community food members with the equivalent of 4.6 million meals. Our amazing suppliers, including Hartshead Meats, provided us with 1,929 tonnes of surplus food in 2023. That food was then distributed to our community food members from Wigan to Stockport and from inner city Manchester to Macclesfield.

We serve food banks, community pantries, cooking projects which provide hot meals for vulnerable people and schools too. By redistributing this surplus food, we are not only feeding the hungry, but helping the environment too. Last year, we saved 7,136 tonnes of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere, the equivalent amount that would be absorbed by 356,800 trees.

One of our community food members who received a donation of meat from Hartshead Meats had this to say about where the meat went:

The beef off-cuts have helped those families, veterans and pensioners that we support. By using the skills of our volunteer butcher we have made many amazing dishes including beef stew, minced beef hotpot, spaghetti bolognaise, shepherd’s pie and beef and mushroom pie, as well as beef brisket in our roast beef dinners. Please thank your supplier for us!”
